What is a "Passe-Muraille"?
The “Passes-murailles”, in english "Wall-pass" are individuals who pass through matter. This name is taken from the short story Le Passe-muraille by Marcel Aymé. It symbolizes people who are stuck between two realities. In Subside, the wall pass represents a symptom of stress and in Le Passe-Sépulcre, mourning. The future of the "wall passes" project will materialize when the “Cyber-Espaces” project is closed. Indeed, it continues in the continuity of research-creation on the possibilities of the virtual. Indeed, virtual individuals are themselves wall pass thanks to the “No-clip”. “No-Clip” in French the “mode passe-muraille” that allows players to pass through normally impenetrable objects like walls, ceilings, or floors by an error of “clipping” (virtual physical boundaries).
Subside
2021, synthesized images, 3 min 19.
Subside represents the cataclysmic evolution of the relationship of two characters who are neither named, nor dressed, nor gendered, manifesting that these characters can be any of us. Inspired by the 3D models and the perpetual circular movement of the camera in the music video Cause I'm a man by the group Tame Impala produced in 2016, the decor turns on itself constantly. Each scene is represented as in a doll's house in a sequence shot. The background never changes, it is just a petrol blue relief that moves fluidly. The blue character, as he descends into hell, takes on the colours of the background, as if he became chaotic as the limbo of the universe in which he finds himself. During his derealization phases, he pass through the floor and the walls, as a video game character that break the suspension of disbelief.
Le Passe-Sépulcre
2021, Plaster sculpture, conductive paint, Processing program.
This piece is inspired by the short story Le Passe-muraille by Marcel Aymé published in 1940 and by the eponymous statue made by Jean Marais located in Montmartre.
This installation is a plaster cast of the body of a mannequin, which aims to give the illusion of going across the ground.
Interested in this state of being "stuck between two dimensions", it allows the viewer to feel the life that remained stuck in this body in crystallization. To do this, he touches the dark areas that extend over his body to activate his sounds. The spectator will thus be able to feel his body, his pulse, his breathing, etc.
